I created this site while living and working at the Berrendo Historic Studios in Roswell, New Mexico where for six months, I drew and painted and applied to Fellowship and MFA programs.
(Yeah, I wrote a ton of essays.)
I also killed a lot of cockroaches. (More on bugs later.)
At times I thought I'd lost -- if not my sanity, at least my intelligence. What was I doing? Nice 60-something me out in the desert, squashing insects?
(Are cockroaches insects? And why is the desert so humid?)
It's complicated.
A lot happened out there. A lot's happened since. I've recently resurrected my blog (achallengingchick.com) and begun the slow and loving task of both editing old writes and writing new. It seemed only logical to resurrect Pink Tangerines. Eventually I hope to marry the two (sites that is). If any of this intrigues you, stay tuned as I blog about such exciting features as where to buy milk in the middle of nowhere, or who needs dairy anyway; what not to say to eccentric artists... men in general? Or just the value of taking chances, the determination which propelled me, and what I came home with instead. Exciting stuff. Oh, and yes. There will be bugs. Lots of bugs.
And art.
Most of the "current" work on this site is from my Berrendo stay. I'll post more once I learn that other fine art of not being a perfectionist. (See? These babies are gonna write themselves!)
Meanwhile, I'm back in Wyoming all safe and sound. New job. New couch. The dog model on this website is Snoopy, my beloved Bichon-mix who passed October '22.
PS. I did a whole album, "The Snoopy Project," in 2014, before realizing "The Mindy Project" might sue me. When I come up with another good name, I'll post those pics here too.
Hope this finds you happy and well.
Karen
